New 'puter thing

Entirely unprompted, work have given me a new Apple Macbook Pro to play with.

I've not used an Apple 'puter since the heady days of the original Mac in the late 80's / early 90's.

Any hints and tips for one so used to windows boxes?

What are you using it for?

If you're using the same software as you were on Windows, then I don't imagine you'll notice much difference.

If you're a keyboard user, rather than a mouse twiddler, turn on System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Keyboard Access -> Full Control so you can use the keyboard to toggle through controls on a dialog box

If you find a way to make Command-Tab maximise an application as you Alt-Tab through your open apps, please let me know!

And boy do I miss backspace as well as delete!

It's going to have to go back. 'cos I just can't get into the skinny jeans. And I look ridiculous in those ugly, heavy framed asymmetric glasses that Mac owners have to wear.

I think it's because I went for the hipster keyboard. It looks great but it's so small, I keep putting my tea on it.

Forgot to say "buy a fixie". However, make sure it's not a proper usable one like a Genesis or a Langster. Get something old, knackered and difficult to buy parts for, just make sure it's 531. Pay at least £300 for the frame. Put moustache bars on (stupid shape), no bar tape (uncomfortable, cold), Campag pedals and clips (difficult to get in and out of), cottered cranks (just a general pain in the arse) and no brakes (unsafe). Bang on to anyone who will listen about the "track geometry" whilst coming up with reasons that you've actually never had a go on a track. Pootle around Shoreditch at 6mph because you're scared to go any faster. You should put cards in the spokes, though you're not sure why.
