Hello all,

I hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you all a fantastic New Year!

I’m very excited about the start of 2025, a purchase of a rough sounding and looking, but ultimately very nice, pair of Judy FSX’s last spring led me to require a suitable build, something I put off for far too long ending with me buying this beautiful Rocky Mountain Blizzard off of member Ackers a few weeks ago.
I’d owned a near catalogue spec 1993 RM Blizzard adorned with Syncros forks some years ago, sold to fund my next retro build as you do, it was a 16” so too small for me really but this is an 18.5” so will fit nicely and make up for that loss.

Since the purchase I’ve been scouring RB and eBay for items to build the bike into an ultimate steel rider, I realised I own no steel (for myself) currently and no hardtail so can’t wait to get back on a rigid rear soon!

I’ve gone a bit mad and doubled up on Seatpost and cranks, I’m leaning towards the TI Syncros post, the stem is also Syncros but black with white lettering, and the silver RaceFace cranks with black RaceFace rings - Thoughts?

I’m keeping it mainly low yet colour wise, I’d put a wanted post up for a red RaceFace aheadset, member Silverfish came through (partly) a red AC headset minus a bottom race, I found a suitable one, in a RaceFace box marked as having a red one in.
If anyone wants to swap a red RaceFace one for an AC one, let me know although it’s a lovely item so I’m not too fussed.

The wheels are both XTR on Mavic 217’s, front being grey M950 on a red lable, rear being silver M910 on blue lable, if anyone has a wheel that matches either going spare, please let me know but I can live with it.

The forks are an earlier pair with shorter travel, I have a NOS RockShox kit comprising of longer damper and pushrod to up the travel to Judy DH level that’ll be going on plus a replacement hanger for the canti brake missing on mine.

There will be a smattering of Ti bolts for the bottlecages plus aheadset cap and chainrings, Santa (my wife) even splashed out on a lovely Ti King water bottle cage for me!

To match the carbon on the forks and because I love the ride feel with them on two of my other retros, I’ve found a good pair of Easton Monkeylite Carbon XC risers.
Other parts which run as a theme on my bikes being ODI grips and DMR pedals, V12Mags in this case, again another present from Santa (didn’t she choose well?! 😂).

Not sure when I’ll start the build but I hope you like the plans, I know I’ve had more tasty parts from members here than I have mentioned so big thank you to all that have sold me stuff.

Updates to follow…….

Corking paint-job on that - I have officially 'subscribed'!
Your 'Santa' did do very well - mine requires strict guidance as I'm 'impossible to buy for'. This may be true - she wouldn't know STX from XT!

I think most men are hard to buy for once we are lucky enough to be able to buy want we want/ are content.

The paint is great, the main decals are peeling off a bit but loathed to spend more so they’ll stay for now, possibly change if they peel more from use/washing.

Spent this morning cleaning up some of the shown parts and others from a donor bike with cracked frame, I bought, the unused parts will be listed soon to recoup some of my spend.

Whilst outside cleaning, a neighbour I knew also likes cycling, came past on an early 2000’s On-One and I found out he has a hoard of retro parts and bikes planned too! We are spreading 🤪

Little update in that I’ve played around with the chainsets.

Black decals removed from the silver set and red ones applied along with two RaceFace rings and a shimano grannie in silver.
Titanium chainrings bolts throughout.

I used the remaining parts plus RaceFace/PRM chainrings bolts on the black arms, mounting a Real, Middleburn and Shimano set of rings.

Still torn on which to use, the black outer and middle ring are definitely better on the silver arms, looks less ‘heavy’ but, the two tone bronze rings against the black arms look classy. What to do 😂
