New 9 speed casette

Looking to go 9 speed (upgrading front to disc, currently have 8 speed sti, so prime opportunity to change). Budget will stretch to £27 but no further. Options are:

HG50 - £18
HG61 - £27
SRAM PG950 - £25

I run Shimano and always will (apart from my 2002 S-works crankset). What suggestions please? I am tempted to stick with the HG50, but is there any benefit from going to either of the more expensive options, and do they justify the price uplift?

£ 41 will get you XT cassette - there is a big drop in weight going to XT from lesser cassette.

as for longevity, I don't know but would be surprised if there is a huge difference. also the higher end cassettes appear to be chrome plated so won't rust as quickly.

I am not familiar with the lower end cassettes you mention so can't advise.

Fit a new chain for the new cassette - KMC seem to be in favour.

I can't stretch to the £41 for an XT casette. I can't justify the additional. Not any more, anyway.

Have you checked the CRC sale? They've got some really cheap cassettes going.

I've just fitted an HG61 to my Lopes and it seems fine, a little heavy compared to the PG970 it replaced, but it was cheap and for a second bike.
