NEVER jump with CARBON bars OUCH lucky escape!!!!!!

I snapped a set of Zoom (IRRC) alloy bars BITD, they went right at the stem. Luckily I had only ridden down a couple of steps onto my mates garden so didnt hurt myself.

The thing we all forget is that .....a week ago / 3 months ago / a year ago... I hit that tree / fell on the gravel / that babyhead rock popped up and hit the bike....

carbon and alu get damaged and should be replaced regularly. FACT.

I reckon if carbon isn't faulty from new and doesn't sustain any damage it will last almost forever. but don't be surprised when it busts on you if you lock your bikr up at the shops or work or crash regularly.

Glad your not hurt (well not hurt enough not to be able to tell the tale).

Could they have been weakened by the vegetation growing out of them?
Try Roundup.

I thought that was his salad packed lunch

Seriously, hope you are ok, nasty thing to happen.

As someone mentioned, you would have thought they would have been made to take abuse, carbon or not, the fact that thay are oversize risers made by a company whose products are mainly downhill/freeride.

I had low rise motorcycle Renthals on my LTS DH, a bit heavy and OTT but sure as hell not going to break

I snapped some carbon bars in a similar way a while back. It was a hire bike too! Turns out brake clamp was done up too tight and crimped the bar. Was a nasty noise I can tell ya- thought i had snapped my arm! Bars are often weakened by overtightening - particularly carbon.
