I serviced and repaired the battery pack on an ebike from around 2016, it had been bought, used a couple of times then left so the charge circuit had given up.

I think it was an Italian brand like Benelli, built in the far east and imported with their decals but with Panasonic batteries so not cheap

Anyway, sorted all that and the Deore drive train. It was pedal assist with the motor in the back wheel...

It didn't need gears!

You could pedal off in whatever and reach top speed in a few turns

The owner is fat and round and likely to stay that way but at least he'll save the fuel costs of his Nissan Navara

BTW. Back in 2003 I put an electric rear wheel in my 1998 26” Giant rigid. Purely for commuting in London, it meant I got to work really cheaply without being sweaty & the 10 mile journey took less time than by walk/train/tube/walk.

Depends on the battery capacity and charging efficiency.
Then whatever you pay for a kW of energy.
It's not a lot, unlike like a car now.
But the cars are cheap if you have a car tarrif, so charge at night like the old economy7 setup.

A quick look and you can get ~500Wh batteries (so 0.5kWh)
It soon to be 52p a unit (kW of energy)
So it'll be about 30p to charge it, adding a bit for losses.

Which is a lot more than it used to be. (currently about 15p, a year ago that would have been about 8p)

To compare, a Nissan leaf I think would be about £25 to £30 to charge at home on the upcoming standard tarrif. (assuming about 40-50kWh battery?)

That is a substantial amount, I have an 80 mile commute and looking at the figures to even lease an electric vehicle will cost far more than I currently spend on fuel and servicing

Someone can correct the amount, but think it is that now.
Like I said though people should move to car tariffs if they need to charge up constantly. I think they're down at 8p a unit in the early morning. So about £5 for a full charge?

I think Electric Stations or Charge points charge even more.
I'm not an EV user.


Cars are a money pit, especially leasing if it's just to get you to work and back.
Get something smaller, takes less space and is more efficient. Electric motorbike if you want to go electric?

The plastic bodywork is interchangeable, even the doors, one is standard the other, suicide, cool.
