Why I think it is a mid to late 90s is that apart from the internal cable guides, it has shift adjusters for the cables where old shifters would have been. Hence, the frame was designed for handlebar shifters.
If i'm not mistaken they are the standard bolt on adjusters. Take them off and you'll have a standard downtube shifter boss underneath.

Yes, they are and they look factory from the design and looks. There are no date stamps on the seat tube.

47p2 - I have just bought your near identical bike. It is stamped N280 - I understand the 80 being 1980, do you know what the N2 is?

Hi Andy, not sure what the N280 number is as I can't see anything similar on my frame.
I have 3 different numbers

Date stamped on seat tube is ALAN1080 which is October 1980
3J 52X54 stamped on the BB shell which is the frame size (unsure what the 3J is)
564XXX stamped on the BB shell which is the serial number

they look more like bog standard off the shelf bolt on adaptors to me.
The sort of thing that came with every set of shifters.

Probably but I'm still at a loss to date the frame. No dates on the seat tube and not sure when Alan started using those decals.Seat pin is 27.2 and rear stays are 130mm.
