Well mange tout then roders I think we're sold on the palisades idea lads curly recons his palisades of the same year came with exage 300LX so this must have been upgraded at some point.

1990 Zolatone Palisades had 300lx. Mountain LX was not available after 1989.

I have seen other 1989 Marins with fluro forks and gloss grey frames just like this one. A tidy grey/orange Pine Mountain of this vintage sold on ebay a few months ago.

Mountain LX was basically renamed to Deore LX in 1990 with the addition of STI.

Good kit apart from the levers which were a bit flimsy.

Yeah I was thinking the same, the mech's look very much like m550's the canti's look pretty cool and solid but the plastic brake levers with attached deore thumbies are a bit odd.

zolatone is post 90 i think

90 = light grey
91= dark grey

As it goes I've got another late 80's Marin frameset which I'm unsure of I bought it for the parts It came with a full Exage groupset and was sold to me as a bear valley but the whole thing is flouresent yellow, is this possible? has the bear valley ever been anything other than black?

All Bear Valley's I've seen from around that time have been black. The Muirwoods was full fluro for a few years but didn't come with Exage. :? Also have a 1989 MBUK that has the team riders in it. Both have fluro yellow Pine Mountains. :?

I'm talking about UK bikes as other countries seem to have had different colours. Get a picture up and we'll take a look.
