Looks smart but can't help identify it

I think Evans used to place their serial numbers like that. However your frame lacks the Evans trademark lubrication ports on the headset and their trademark dropouts.

HW - I was looking at Evans this morning and getting pretty hopeful.

Simon - I'm in W London BUT bought this as a bit of a wreck from a gent who bought it on ebay...etc

HW - even the number 4597 (ignoring the 9 prefix) matches what I can find on Evans and places it around 1939.

I was just reading up on Evans and interesting part about frame numbers. They said probably not more than 3000 made in the 30s and position of the frame number unusual and only other to use that position is Ellis Champion that they know of.


Yeah with ebay bikes go all over the show, Sully. Can help sometimes. I'm in West London myself.
