Just buying this...

anyone give me and age? details?

cotter pins so 70's? looks earlier though maybe 60's?

Stem looks odd too is that a reynolds stem?

I had a very similar looking Dawes that dated from the late 1950s (the Cyclo-Benelux derailer was the clue). What components are on yours?

picking it up tomorrow.

the stem and bars just look older and cottered dawes should pre 70's?

my gut feeling is that its a late fifties/early sixties model thats been "upgraded" to crappy simplex mechs during the 70's and the leather saddle has been replaced somewhere along the line too.

I've seen this conversion a number of times.

The old cloth handlebar tape hints at 50's-60's too.

theres a front mech but what looks like a single ring lol.

Not necessarily. When I got into cycling in the early 1990s, some of the cheapest Dawes, Raleigh and Falcon offerings still - surprisingly - used cottered steel cranks.

I always thought cottered cranks were phased out by raleigh in early 80's?

The bike doesent look as late as that though, stem and pedals hint at older.

theres a 1968 dawes galaxy.

decals look much more similar to that, dont you think?, you'd never have that stem on an 1980's bike I dont think?[/img]

The brown smudge on the headtube looks a bit like an uncared-for brass headbadge, which I think they were using until the mid 1960s.

The decals (or more rightly, the unfaded patches of paint where the decals once were) on my 1957 Dawes were script, not uppercase; with that in mind, I'd say it's 1960s at the earliest.

I think until we see some close-up pictures, we're all just speculating!

yep, think we have narrowed it down to 60's-ish.

gonna pick it up either tomorrow or sat, will report back then.
