My Specialized Hardrock

Miilo

Retro Newbie
Hi there,
This is my last restoration, a 1990s Specialized Hardrock, I'll be happy if someone can point me to the right year...
The serial number is M7HL19337, so 1997 maybe ?

50cm Cr-Mo steel frame,
Shimano Acera X front and rear derailler,
Shimano ST-M050 shifters (to replace non-matching griftshift)
Shimano FH-RM40 hubs
Unknown rims
Specialized 26x2.0 The Captain tires

Hardrock

Hello, I'm new here and first time in a forum too. Sorry if this is not the correct way to do things.
I've just brought a Hardrock. Can someone confirm the year for me and point out what isn't original, or what is original if that's quicker!

Cheers

Re:

1987, I believe.

I doubt if the tyres are original: I wouldn't bother trying to chase down whatever the original ones were though. The Panaracer Smoke and Dart are a classic combination and probably better than whatever the Hardrock came with. They suit the bike too. I can't see the saddle very well in the photos but the rest looks like it could be original.

This looks like the very same bike: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=391540

There was a very short period when brakes were mounted under the chain stays. Hardrock had them from 1986 through 1988. Based on graphics and colored stem, I'd agree that it's likely an 87. Specialized is a little vague about the serial numbers, but some people can track dates from the derailleurs and brakes. Here's a catalog scan for the 1987 Hardrock, you can see the similarities.

Re:

Thanks guys. It was an eBay purchase and those are the sellers pics. Should get the bike on Friday and am keen to have a look.
