Hi everyone,
a gentleman picked up for me this Scapin Oto's 2002 with Columbus frame from Italy and kindly posted it here.
This is the box with all parts.

I was expecting something broken, fortunately only the derailleur hanger was smashed.

So I bought a new one, unfortunately scapin originals are nowhere to be seen in UK.
I started removing the various layers of grease from all parts.
Fork (Marzocchi bomber) and headset first...

Then derailleur, cassette and shifters.
Never cleaned such a dirty cassette and derailleur.

I also spent time dismantling and cleaning the truvativ cranks and bottom bracket only to find that there was lot of play in it, so I temporarily fitted my LX from my other bike.
Awaiting delivery of carbon fibre cranks and suitable chainrings.

After my first ride I got rid of those tyres that not only weight an astonishing 1.1kg each, but they're very slippery.
I should've known as I ride on gravel and in the woods.
Fitted my trustworthy Michelin Country rock weighing in at...

I also replaced the saddle which was very uncomfortable.
I fitted a classic all black Selle San Marco taken a few years ago from a Marin (???)

I forgot to mention that after my first ride I decided to ditch the bar ends and grips with palm rests for simple and soft grips.
This is because after I built the Specialized, I found it more comfortable that this setup.
Pictures to follow.
Also, I realised that the back caliper was binding, that's why it felt heavy on the quads.
I cleaned both brakes and bled fresh oil in them... all great.
I also set the forks accordingly to manufacturer info and changed oil in the tubes.
My second ride was a dream!
Without trying I broke my own average speed record on the same route that I usually do.
Got to take updated pictures and post here...
Thanks for reading, I hope I haven't bored anyone 😂😂😂

Fitted a ShimanoXT M770 crankset today, then it started raining, so couldn't do a test ride, but all seems great.
And I couldn't take pictures of the whole bike 🙄 20241025_095402.jpg 20241025_095447.jpg 20241025_122537.jpg 20241025_122541.jpg 20241025_122547.jpg 20241025_123256.jpg

Test ride yesterday...
Those cranks are perfect and the shifting is superb.
As you can see I had to ditch the carbon seatpost for a pneumatic one.
Unfortunately at my age I need a bit of cushioning on my bum at risk of compromising the look...
