My saba equipe project begins after nearly 40 years wait!

Hi everyone. I thought I'd share my next project as there seems to be almost no information or images of saba frames for that matter on the net which is amazing really when you consider what is on there!

If any of you have info you'd like to share about these rare framesets it may help others and add to the little I already know.

I always lusted after one of these frames ever since I saw a guy win a criterium in Beighton near Rotherham circa 1980. I've had a lot of nice bikes since then but the saba always eluded me... until now :D

I've saved it from "death by turbo trainer" and already stripped it completely. New decals are ordered up and I'm just deliberating over where to take it for re-enamelling. Recommendations there gratefully received. I''m currently thinking Argos but happy to hear of alternatives.

You can see the bike as it arrived and follow my progress here if you are interested. https://www.facebook.com/15136717496429 ... =3&theater

Looking forward to hearing from some of you and pushing this rebuild along... #dreamscancometrue

Bye for now...

Sounds like my SABA, journey, saw them at the Harrogate Show 1978 and wanted one ever since, got a frame a couple of years ago and trying to get some bits together. So far got a SABA panto stem, SABA cable clips, SABA drinks bottle and a SABA pump. Oh, and a signed picture of Ian Hallam with his SABA lol

Re:

I hear you Midlife.

It truly is a waiting game to get these vintage beauties back up and running as we'd like them. I don't suppose you'd pop some pics up of the saba frame and the gear you've amassed so far?

Funnily enough I had a black saba pantographed Cinelli 1R stem back in 1982 but it was only 10cm long and I've gradually gone up to a 130 now so finding another's gonna be nigh on impossible I reckon. I've picked up a NOS plain silver one for my new build and got a few more bits on the way...

Hope to hear back...

Cheers

Bought my SABA from evil Bay after many years waiting. Can't seem to copy the link but here's the title from 2018

GREAT PERIOD/CLASSIC CYCLE/BIKE SABA FRAME,SHIMANO 105,MAVIC,CAMPAGNOLO,BROOKS

There was a red one on Hilary stone website but didn't fancy it. Its usually accepted that IRB imported the frames made by Viner. I always wanted a Viner since the Skol 6 day back in the 70's. I eventually found one that had been converted to a TT frame

This tablet simply refuses to cut and paste lol. Try to get some pics when on the pc

I moved house and downsized so all the vintage bike stuff is all packed into what used to be an office!

Argis have got a good rep, what colour are you going for?

Cheers. Shaun

Thanks for getting back to me Shaun.

I'd be keen to see some pics when you get chance.

I'm going to keep the original pale metallic blue that I recall is one of the original saba colours and have some white saba decals being made up for me by CycloMondo.

I've just received my Cinelli Unicanitor saddle and NOS Cinelli 1R stem and getting together a good stash of kit so hopefully will get fully built around August I reckon...

You can check out the progress on my Facebook feed here https://www.facebook.com/15136717496429 ... =3&theater

I'll try to post some pics. on here too once I've got my head around file sizes etc...

Cheers

Hi

I'm not on Facebook but I'll try and have a look.

Some later SABA frames with chrome were made by Roy Cottingham allegedly, nothing wrong with that as he made fab frames.

Good choice with the pale blue, one of the original colours. I'm stuck between pale gold which was the colour I saw back in 1978 or Silver which was the colour of the "KP Crisps - SABA" Road bikes.

Cheers. Shaun

Hi Shaun.

You should still be able to see the saba gallery on FB using the link as I use it for my work and clients who aren't on FB can usually see their photo galleries but can't comment on them unless they create an account.

No chrome on mine so most likely a "Viner" build...

A couple of my page followers only use FB to see my workshop feed LOL! The first saba I ever saw was in the pale metallic blue and I'm still in contact with the guy that owned it nearly 40 years on!

The pale gold would be my preference out of the two colours you've shortlisted...

More to follow on my project soon...

Cheers
