My Pace has arrived, but what to do.....

So my RC200 frame has arrived.

But so many options, do I

1, Leave it as is, gun metal but a bit bruised looking
2, Shot blast and polish
3, Shot blast and have it re-anodised
4, Powder coat or paint,

Then do I go retro build, M900 on V brakes, or discs and more modern kit?

Also can anyone date for me. I am assuming F3 or F4 as it has a form od disc mount as well as the V bosses.

I'd leave iit as it is.
Remove the cable guide from under the bottom bracket and you'll find the serial number, should start with "F" and a number, which tells you what model it is.
I'd go for discs myself, some nice Hope disc brakes perhaps?
 
The brake tab looks like something some one has had made, its not a Pace item, but looks functional so go with it. M900 will likely be a little on the modern side if trying to keep it period-ish.

It's a bit more scratched and bruised than the pictures show
I will go and have a look at the number in a sec, never seen a disc mount like that before.

F518 so is this an F5?
 
Sounds like it's an F5 then. Was that all the numbers? Or are there more hidden under the cable guide thingy?

My first Pace was an F5 and I have to say that it was the one I liked the most. Although I've owned two F8's and still have one now. My F5 just felt right and I put that down to the build.

I've seriously thought about building up an F5 to the exact spec of the one that I had back in the day.

The spec on mine was as follows -

Pace F5
Pace RC36evo (I think 1997) and with 70mm of travel
Full 8 speed XT including v brakes, hubs and bottom bracket
XT headset
Ringle seatpost
Ringle stem
Pace/Renthal sub 130 bars
Flite saddle in black
XT spd pedals
Mavic rims

For me it was the high point of early mountinbiking. After that it all went a bit too tech.

Well it's a 1996 bike, and the american review (in the archive) thought it was comfy and a bit like a stout Ti or steel frame iirc didn't like the pace forks to much though.

A review without the UK tintedness.
Though they did test in a British island, well Barbados.
 
I had the same dropout/disc tab on my old f6...............shame I had to sell it

clean it, build it ride it, then when everything is ready for renewal, paint and upgrade?
