My new project, tell me all you know about this Lotus

I understand the bike was made between 92 & 94.

Tony, I may have some questions for you actually, the construction is rather trimble like.

That looks far better made that a T. I don't understand how i missed such a striking bike. I stopped mtbing in 95.

glad it has Maguras fitted. Trimble should have done the same. The frames construction looks modern.
does it have to have susser forks? What's the weight of just the frame? The BB area looks stiff?
Look forward to pictures.

Alas I do not have any scales suitable for measuring the weight of the frame, but it certainly isnt heavy.

I shall be building it with sus forks as I have some RC35's of the correct age with the dedicated magura clamp mounts. Perfect!

My question to you was going to be about the finish of the frame, the one I have is an ex race fame and shows signs of a hard life. I would ideally like to get the frame recoated in the plastic/paint that it is currently skimmed with, which is I assume similar to how trimbles are finished. I was after any insight you could offer into this process, what the final layer finish is, and if you have ever found any one able to renovate it.

I'm not any use. T's seemed to be just painted and lacquered. RBG may know more. I just rubbed the old paint off and rattle canned it. The factory paint has a lovely gloss look.
I'll pop over one day with my scales

Lovely to see one of these still about. I worked at Lotus from September 94 to August 95 and these were in the catalouge of reduced bikes and stuff available to staff. So that puts at least some definite date to it. I don't think I've seen one since then. It is really good to see it just to prove to myself I didn't dream it.

As I remeber them the carbon was laid up to allow a little flex in the rear. The frames weren't made at Lotus, just available to us. As is well documented elsewhere on the forum, there was a tie in with British Eagle, which we could also get reduced prices on. Even with the discounts these were really expensive, especially for a poor student.

Never actually saw one or rode one. A group of us from the Factory used to ride Thetford most weekends and none of us had a Lotus or British Eagle bike though!

Look forward to seeing it finished
