by a Jedi.
Tony @ UK Bike Skills http://www.ukbikeskills.co.uk/ to be more precise
I always knew I had a few bad habits in my riding and I decided to do something about it by booking a 1 to 1 session with Tony 'Jedi' Doyle as I had read a lot of good feedback about his techniques
Within 5 minutes of a simple skills check Tony had sussed out which skills I needed to tweak and which ones were not there at all, he also in that time figured out the way that I learn things.
A quick set up change to my brakes and we were off to the next part of the day
After we worked on my skill set I started doing drop off's and in a few minutes I had nailed the landings perfectly every time
Then onto the skills trail, which consisted of several sections of trail that were broken down into bite sized chunks in which various skills were needed.
Cornering had (I felt) always been a weak spot of mine, I hardly ever seemed to carry the speed of the trail with me, but after a few runs on the top section of the trail my speed increased with every run
After linking the top two sections together which included bermed corners, off camber corners, flat corners and a rock garden I moved onto the next section, which has a fly out jump which after a few attempts I did manage to nail
Then onto bermed corners into drop off's which I did take a little time to get right, but get it right I eventually did
The final section of the trail was a long double apex corner upwards into a drop off and a steeply bermed corner.
Again it took a few attempts to get the right line, but as usual I eventually got it sorted and shot out of the berm with a good amount of speed
To end the day I moved on up to the 6ft tabletop jump and after half a dozen runs cleared it with no effort at all.
The pic was taken just as I dropped the front wheel into the landing and pushed the rear up so as to give a smooth 2 wheeled landing
Best ride of my life
If anyone has ever thought about improving their riding and becoming smoother and faster I would not hesitate to recommend Tony @ UK Bike Skills, his coaching is easily worth the expense and the journey down to his skills centre.
His training is only the beginning of the journey, his words will always echo in my head when I'm out riding my bike.
