My gripe for today is. . . . . . .

Why do so many people on various forums use the term "brought" when they mean "bought"

I "brought" the bike new in 1995!!!!!
No you didn't, you "bought" the bike in 1995!!!!!!
So so many people use this, how thick is it possible to be?

Rant over

Two things:-

1. Raging against the light over that, and you're gonna spend all your time fuming over spelling and / or grammar - good luck with that.
2. Spelling mistakes and / or grammatical errors are far from evidence that posters are thick - maybe a couple of other tells, like use of emoticons or excessive use of punctiation marks would confirm?

The difference is that I chose to use excessive punctuation and Emoticons to exaggerate the point. However, the people I refer to don't know the difference between the aforementioned words! That, to me, shows a poor grasp of the English language.

Thank you for supporting my point.

What ? You stalked them to establish it wasn't just a one-off typo, or poor proof-reading?

I guess we all have differing priorities, but I can't help but think you're allowing yourself to get annoyed by minutia whilst missing the whole glory that is retrobike.

Now I'm not about to go all neo-philisophical, with Bruce-Lee's-finger-and-moon-oft-abused-quote-from-Enter-the-Dragon, so I'll use a cheap, throwaway one-liner from Warren Oates (kudos if you know the film): "Lighten up, Francis."

I wasn't referring to the retrobike community exclusively, more ebay and other car forums that I am also a member of. Anyway, it was just an observation and something I find a tad annoying, that's all.

Wood, trees.

You're missing the shiny, shiny - who cares if there's the odd typo or poor choice of words. Text speak and colloquialisms I could understand more.

Sometimes it's Always September.

I've gotta admit, Neil, dampening drives me to drink.

and emoticons, but their overuse dropped dramatically. ;)
