Hi All
Found this pic of my Ridgeback S from way back.
Not really by first, that was a Freeway Yeti with Sturmey hub brakes, but it fell apart in the first few months and the shop offered me a swop.
First mortgage meant I needed a cheap commuter, the Ridgeback was a 7 day bike, monday to saturday to work and sunday off road.
By the time of the pic it was probably 18mths old ish and had to replace the cranks, front fork, seat and rear mech due to wear or breakages, didn't last much longer, the bottom bracket ovalised so the bearing popped out whenever I put a bit of effort into the pedals.
Rear end was very flexy but it steered fast, interestingly the 19" frame was the smallest in stock, that was Two Wheels Plus at Billingshurst who really embraced mountain bikes at the time.
Frame was replaced by a Diamond Back Ascent which gradually got upgraded and was on the road for another 10 years including doing a few century rides.
