My 531C Custom Tourer from BITD ready to ride again

Had this built for me when I was 15(?) Its been round Europe as far as the Pyrenees and even Northern Portugal.

I wanted to get a road bike back on the road to get some miles in my legs, maybe to work and back (30 mile each way) as I've entered some long, hard mountain bike events (Isle of Mann end to end & the 24 hour Mountain Mayhem)

Looked at the old training/Crit bike, but it looked a bit to racey. Looked at the old winter bike, on fixed gear, front brake only, heavy frame, and that looked like insanity! So the old Tourer was pulled out of the pile and has been serviced (well i say serviced, I adjusted the front brake cable and fitted new tyres and tubes) it all seems to work (maybe last used 1992/3) and had a quick 10 minute ride on it.

No excuses to not do some road miles now.

Was made by a local builder, Roger Haydock, of Henry Gregson Cycles.

I like this. I converted my first Saracen to be my tourer but did wonder if a specialist bike might be better. I decided against when I realised I spend most of my road miles either on the hoods or even the flats since fubaring my shoulders.

Well, might be a year since I started this thread.... but I didnt ride the bike all of 2011. However got a 21 day driving ban at the start of the year, and it kicked me int he arse to start commuting to work on the old girl!

Its helped fitness, and has been good. Got my license back now, but still did the almost 50-mile round trip commute today - going to try and keep it up.

Have to say, 5 speed rear cassette does mean ratios are not very close... hers my "way home" GPS

Yep that's the plan
