My 50's Sid Mottram

I picked up this what i was told a 1950's Sid Mottram early in October last year from the daughter of the original owners daughters .



Apart from a quick wipe down of the paintwork , front wheel respoke , swapping the original williams crankset for a stronglight one , new cables , replacing the broken blue guards for some black ones and fresh grease where required .



So far it has covered approx 200 + miles as part of my winter fixed wheel road bike fleet , running a 48 x 21 set up .

At last - a Sid Mottram! One of the brands not seen on RB - see my thread. Who built these? Did Motttram buy them in or did he have his own builder?

I read as much as I could find when I got mine (which wasn't a huge amount) and Wally Green was the frame builder in the 50's and possibly later from what I've read and then later ones by Mercian.

Looking at the fork crown and brake bridge etc. I'd say your's is later than mine and mine I think is early to mid 50's but that really is a guess after looking at others.

That said I've also read that the very early ones were built by Holdsworth and mine does look a bit early Holdsworth.
