starting off with the apology, because previous experience of forums (fora?) like this tells me that the answer will already be on the forum somewhere, and I have just not been able to find it yet .......
So ...... Marin Muirwoods, c 1989 ish - I currently have Mich Chamonix 27 x 1.90s and want to put a fatter (essentially taller) tyre on it to absorb some of the trail harshness and rocks, and want to know what I can sensibly get away with.
Yes, I can measure the space available in between the chainstays (the fork isn't really an issue), but without trying particular tyres (an expensive exercise just to see if ............) it seems to be a bit of a guess, plus actual tyre dimensions and the rated size may be only distantly related.
Can anyone help, please?
