Mudguards....do you use them ?

Part of the fun for me riding off road in the winter is getting muddy.

I can see the benefits for those that are going somewhere and need to be dry when there, me, I'm just going home on every ride :)

Don't mudguards collect mud when off road? it gets trapped enough just between my frame and tyre.
 
Muddy arses are great till you get to the café/pub. Esp so if cowshit is involved
However, I have to concede that for a route involving proper thick mud and/or peat, mudguards will pose a problem
 
Tried them on my commuter hardtail. Pretty effective although I need to shim the back one as it moves around. Think it prefers a thicker seatpost than 27.2mm.
My seatpost is 27.2mm - if you tighten the strap so the locking cam is nearly too tight it will stay tight enough not to move around.
