Muc off !

I have heard rumours- rumours that the slightly purple tinge to many black anodised goodies is caused by Muc Off. Is this true? Does it cause purplescence to some ano goodies? Does it affect other colours?
How could one purpleise, intentionally some goodies? It's just the right subtle purp without being garish like 3DV.
Soak overnight in a 20% solution? or how?

The muc-off car stuff is alkali based, but I don't know if the bike stuff is. Either way its pretty harsh stuff and probably best not to get it anywhere near anodising. Sounds a bit far fetched that it would be used to give tints to anodising.

Seem to remember it playing havoc with polished alloy

I saved up my paperround money for months to buy some Sugino cranks, then used Muck Off to clean then, it ruined them :(

Car & bike stuff is the same thing....

Your better off using some sort of citrus cleaner or an All Purpose Cleaner as close to ph neutral as possible imho.

Wouldn't of thought it would cause a purple tinge on any anodising, it is pretty harsh stuff though, I am using the Juice Lubes one called Dirt Juice which you can dilute from concentrate which seems pretty good.

I've used Muc-Off and it had a detremental effect on some black parts.
I think as others have said it's a bit over strong, so maybe diluting it maybe the answer .

Muc-Off these days is not as harsh as the stuff we used BITD. As with any cleaner it is best to use just enough to get the job done. Leaving bits to soak in it is not a good idea. They appear to market it to different groups for various jobs. Yokohama / TSW wheels sell it as an alloy wheel cleaner for the boy-racer fraternity and it is sold to the motorcyle community too as a general cleaner.
