Mt. Bike Action Mags old!!

Hey guys,
I put a wanted ad for Mt. Bike magazines in the local trader. A guy called me and said he had just about everyone made since 1985. He wants a decent amount for them. Is it worth paying for these magazines? Or should I just try to find someone who wants to throw them away?

People put FREE STUFF on Craigslist all the time, so you might get lucky there, but I'd say the vast majority of people would just throw them out rather than take the time to list them for free.

About 10 years ago I threw out a BIG stack of MBA issues - damn near every issue from about 1988 thru 1997 (I had a subscription) because I thought I'd never look at them ever again. :shock: :roll: My reasoning: the technology is always improving, so who cares about all this old stuff.

I'm still kicking myself to this day.

I emailed MBA a few months back, and they said they have a bunch of back issues, but there's no financial incentive for them to scan them for posterity.

How much money does the seller want for them? I have a scanner and wouldn't mind scanning an issue or two for the common cause. Anyone else? If everyone pitched in we could immortalize a substantial part of MTB history. I see the OP is new here, but perhaps a RB veteran wouldn't mind taking this on (buying the mags, accepting contributions, and assigning issues to contributors to scan and upload). I wonder if server space would be an issue?

Just a thought. Standing by with my scanner at the ready...

2 years ago I threw out every Bicycling and MTB action magazine from 89 to 95.........6 months later I discovered there was a big retro bike scene.

It still makes me cry lol

Pretty much all of us have done this at some point!.......I once binned an orange elite bike dripping with use/mavic/xt/ pace bits.....it still hurts to type my shameful admission!.....pay what you are happy paying for the mags and enjoy them......don't think too hard about it!....

can you just clarify that?
you THREW AWAY an orange elite?
as in got rid down the dump, as in disposed of through lack of love? as in commited a retrobike sin?

Don't make me repeat it please!......I had come home a month prior to it to a dear John from my wife of 12 years telling me she had taken my two sons to live with a builder she had been seeing for a year, I lost my house and pretty much everything, so I wasn't thinking too straight at the time......it was all part of a mental and physical re boot, but yes, I threw it away!.....I'm in a whole new place in life now, but I still cringe when I'm forced to think of it!.....what a f;'..-/ng waste!..... :shock:.....there!....I admitted it!....it's my darkest secret!....
