This topic has done my head in what with shitty cake and people's weird preferences for dogs I will have to remove myself until nearer the day.

Thanks head done in andy

With you mate...Great Mayhem Bake Off need to start another thread!

I may be proved wrong and THM's doubtlessly educated commentary on cake double out turnout next year. But I doubt it.

If we do feel the need for a cake related thread then set one up by all means. Otherwise lets try and keep it vaguely MM and bike related.

Have a new and improved (and larger!) RB marquee on the way. This is guaranteed to stand up to winds of at least Force 3 on the Beaufort Scale and as such I'm hoping it last until mid evening Friday before collapsing. So please save a good sized area track side for it...

I'm thinking that tbh.......one bike with enough kit to sort any problems.......

Just checked the forecast, wet each side of weekend but dry fri/sat/sun!!

Looks like the old bike gods may smile on us at last and allow us more than one ride from a set of blocks!.......yay!.....

Re:

Old RetroBikers taking part at this years Mayhem may like to reflect that the first ever mountain bike specific event in Britain took place exactly 30 years ago tomorrow. It was the first Wendover Bash and was held in the Chiltern Hills on the Sunday the 17th of June 1984.

So by the time you arrive at Gatcombe Park, Mayhem like events will have been taking place in Britain for over than 30 years.

According to local newspaper The Bucks Herald, June 21 1984 edition:
"TV cameras capture forest bash,"
"A film crew from Channel 4 was in Chiltern Forest to record the action of the Wendover Bash mountain bike competition for their sport and adventure show Wheels, Wings and Water. About 75 competitors from all over the country took part in the event."

I bet they didn't realise that they were witnessing the beginnings of a new sport, that would still be growing in popularity some 30 years later.

What sort of size john so i can tape it off.

thanks andy

I will mostly be talking bike from now on.

Will there be the friday night jumble like last year? If so will need to get some extra cash together.

Also does anybody have a bike stand they want to bring and sell me?

There, was that better?

I am arriving sat morning. Anyone got an idea as to how long it takes usually to get in with a car? Are we talking local show type delays or glastonbury on the weekend?

Currently plan to leave Devon at 7 but might make it 6 or 5 am...

I got there around 8.30 / 9.00 am on Saturday last year, and there were no queues to speak of.

Travel time it is a little over an hour door to campsite from J21 on the M5, so that should help with leaving time.

One thing to note, you are best getting to the site from Nailsworth, as all the roads are pretty narrow and if you try to use the back lanes (as THM inevitably will), you could end up stuck in local traffic.

I'll be heading down from penrith ,at present I've no car as she started leaking oil onto exhaust but I've been reassured it'll be fixed by Wednesday night.on the subject of cakes " Kendal mint cake" is the best

Looking forward to it!

For what it's worth last year I put in the fastest lap on the Retrobike West Mids team, which coincidentally was faster than all of the "Retrobike" South West Rats too (although I'm not sure the dude on the 29er Cannondale with a Lefty counted as riding a retro bike but there we go...)

Can that be considered riding bikes?
