Mountain LX Shifters & Cantis to U Brakes

Hi,

I have a Carrera Quattro 2 (1989 ish) with Mountain LX integrated shifters/levers.

The shifters can be removed, but the bracket they come with is specific to the levers.

I'd like to replace the front Cantis with V-Brakes, and I think I will also need to replace the canti Levers.

Does anyone know of a bracket which can be used to make the LX shifters standalone so that I can put an alternate VBrake lever on?

Pic attached.

Thanks,

Lee

I know an SL-M732 mount does NOT work.

I suspect an SL-MT62 might work but I don't have one to test (EDIT: After looking at the underside of an SL-MT62 mount I do not think it would work). I have a NOS set of Mountain LX shifters and mounts (not the brake levers) if you decide to stick with that model and find a suitable mount. (EDIT: Mountain LX shifters spoken for)

If you have a U-Brake in the rear I don't think you can use a V-Brake. A U-Brake also requires a cantilever brake lever which pulls less cable than a V-Brake lever.

You COULD use a V-Brake in front and keep the U-Brake in the rear but you would need a brake lever that is suitable for BOTH cantilever's and V-Brakes such as Real brake levers. (there are two different places to put the cable in the brake lever - on for canti's one for V-Brakes).

My friend has some and the body looks like a Deore thumbie to me so I'd have though the mounting bracket for those would work?

You know I hadn't thought of that! It does indeed have a U brake in the back - I'd prefer to keep that, but it would obviously not work with VBrake levers.

It's making me think I should just leave it as-is!

I've tried faffing a mount for the LX shifters and it just doesnt work unless you have access to a machine shop...
