Hope that clatter turns out to be something trivial. Those are usually strong engines. Good to see some other motorised bike enthusiasts here.

SHOOSH! Ye'll get Rob started with his collection of muscle machines

And Eck, and Mikee, and.....

Thought I might have it sussed today after pulling motor covers off and making adjustment to camchain tension, but problem persists. Its intermittent too - one minute the motor is sweet as a nut, the next it sound like a bunch of chimps with hammers in a dustbin :(

Starts and idles fine, drives as normal then all hell lets loose, then goes away, then comes back, then goes away.......... consistent with engine speed :(

I'm in the OC so have put out pleas for help there. It'll get sorted eventually - I rebuilt the motor from the ground up 15 years ago so its done quite well, for a novice. They also have a balancer chain assembly which can clatter if out of adjustment so will have a look at that later in week.

Kinda hoping its not the valve gear

gone through a few cars now.
micra 1.3 auto was me first.
focus 2.0 auto estate 2nd.
then I got a c2 which got sold a week later.
then I got a golf. which got sold.
then I had a Vauxhall 1.3tdi estate. utter shite - went well for a while but then I had turbo issues and gave up - sold it.
I now have a Vauxhall cavalier which has cooling issues will drive fine for a hour then overheats  ill be ripping into that soon. starting to think I should stay away from cars and stick to motorbikes + push bikes.

Nice idea... I'm guessing Jimi's list will be bigger but....

1962 Austin A40 - (first car)
Peugeot 309
Landrover Series 2A - (Lasted 3 months)
Citroen AX 1.5 Diesel (Wrote off)
Austin Metro (a between cars car, tuned by my uncle, fast, drank fuel and spat fire out of the exhaust :) )
Nissan Sunny (yes I know, nearly got dumped for that one)
Suzuki Vitara (I liked it)
Peugeot 306 1.9TD
Nissan Micra (a between cars car)
Saab 900 coupe
Touran 1.6fsi (Big Red Bus :) Brilliant for bikes boats and camping )
Hyundai Santa Fe, modern niceness but I really only get to drive the Touran.

OK, I'll play too:

1974 Ford Escort 1.3L (Badly repaired by previous owner apprentice welder - 2nd worst car I ever bought)
1978 Mini 1000 (but really a 1098 engine from a Clubman - worst car I ever bought)
1981 Vauxhall Chevette (Blew the cylinder head gasket the day I bought it due to leaky water pump which I knew about, drove it for 20k more miles with the thermostat out and no heating)
1971 Ford Escort 1.1L (lovely 2 door, still the nicest gearbox ever, the car I proposed to my wife in)
1991 Peugeot 205 XS (Best driving car ever, in fact still the best I've ever owned)
1996 Vauxhall Jetta (first car in the US, gearbox imploded the day after we bought it)
1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE (the car I should have brought back from the US)
1984 Mercedes Benz 300SD (the car I did bring back from the US)
1999 Volvo S40 1.9D (fecking Renault diesel engines)
2006 Mazda MX-5 1.8 (Cut and blow-dry, madam?)

And my motorbike:

1989 Honda Revere
