Probably Ford 2.8i V6, Capri needs to go and maybe some bikes
and bits too
Don't you think the old Cologne is a bit of a boat anchor? Heavy, underpowered and expensive to tune? Wouldn't a turbo Cosworth be a better idea? 300bhp can be easily and cheaply found. Still a heavy-ish engine but not as heavy as the 2.8.
The RWD Gartracs always worked better with a lighter motor up front and mounted as far back in the bay as possible. They can suffer from understeer which turns to snap oversteer if they have too much weight up front.
Yeah, i'm not a huge fan of the Cologne, they are not the most tuneable of motors (the reason why so many companys did Turbo conversions on them, just thought of the Cologne as it'd keep the build simple, could buy a running 2.8i with a dead shell for a few hundred quid, use the motor, box, crossmember, rack and power steering, rear axle, wiring loom, guages etc.
TBH i'm not a demon driver, just building the Escort as an interesting weekend toy to fart about the streets, trips to B&Q, Morrissons etc
, the 160bhp in the Cologne will probably be enough.
The Cossie motor would be ace but i thought they were still quite expensive to buy and build :?, could fit the 2.8i initially then upgrade to 24V Cosworth V6 eventually
Did look at Zetec and Duratec but those can be expensive to convert to RWD and the induction systems are expensive too (whether carbs or T/B's)
TBH it's very early days, will be getting the shell on Saturday, main priority will be to get it rolling, will have plenty of time to decide on a motor
