Or MTB Pro-I liked that

MTB Pro was too grown-up and highbrow for its own good. I loved it but it just didnt sell against 'sister' MBUK. A big shame.

 I thought it was great, at least until it started with all the name changes...

Jamie Hibberd, I could've sworn I saw him working in a games shop in Weston super Mare last year.

" Welcome to MBUK.... this month we'll discuss what waste of money disc brakes, 9 speed cassettes and monster suspension are if all you like a pootling at high speed around offroad singletrack on a top quality steel steed dripping with bling that's a fifth of it's original price..... "

Not really gonna fly is it now?

he went on to edit metal hammer magazine, and is now working on F1 for the BBC

Went to Trowbridge College with Jamie form Sept' 94 to June '95

Didn't do much in the way of work there but he's done good...It's not about what you know but who you know lol

I actually rather liked MBUK during that period. You couldn't say they employed Jamie to get some punk readers- they took the piss out of him at every opportunity.

Perhaps I was just at the right age at that point, but the Chipps/Brant Richards/Loretz/(eventually) Hibbard era was fine by me.

I've seen him in Top Gear magazine recently too...

MBUK's the same as it ever was - trying to cover all bases as best it can, it just seems that bitd people did lots more xc. Also remember there used to only be a choice of dh or xc generally, as opposed to xc, dh, dj, enduro, slopestyle, trials, etc etc etc. It would still be better if they brought back Zak Tempest though.......

Exactly my point...MTB has split off into so many different areas these days and as a result the magazine seems a bit of a mess lol

i got in a argument with one of their writers not so long ago... coz i said £2000 was a rip of for a rigid single speed (pointed out i was rideing a bike when he was in primary school he didnt like that), the photo on the front page is always put at a funny angle to make it look more extrema... i hate that magazine and always have.. according to MBUK u need a least 5 bikes, that must be replaced on a weekly basis, the bike radar web site makes me lol...i never met so many fan boys..say one bad thing about hope and they ban you from the forums...when i used to work in a bike shop we would get band on a daily basis,lol...i remember having a mint sauce top when i was about 12.... after they started to supporting Halfords i stopped even reading it occasional...MBR used to be good but gone down hill as of late!
sorry for the rant!!!

they lie as well, i got this message from a mbuk staff writer

Well, depends on your interpretation of that.

Our testing system is 100% honest(as a £9 note)- even if to our commercial disadvantage- which unfortunately it sometimes is. Many an advertiser has pulled advertising or been very angry after bad reviews, but we provide a service to the reader to provide them with accurate and un-biased attention.

All our products are reviewed by the types of people that would buy them in the real world, then reviewed by the types of people that probably wouldn't.

So unfortunately, we're excluded from your rather generous assumption...

If you're pointing the finger, feel free to come to the office for a discussion on the subject- it's something we take very seriously.

doddy

i get the feeling he is lieing, the magazine is total dependent on advertising..so they must in fact under company law they must always do what is in the best commercial interest!!! Because they have share holders!

I still have one of the Mint Sauce jerseys, I was hoping to wear it to the Cannock meet, but it'll be too cold!

Do they change hands on here?

The demise of Pro / World led to me founding the GoFar site, which morphed into Singletrack. The idea was that there was probably a big enough market to support a grown-ups title even if a big publishing house didn't want to keep one on its books. Ten years on, the idea seems to have worked. A shame my life was going tits up during the transformation into print, I decided to jump ship just as it was getting interesting having pretty much lost interest in riding.
