Here's one of the funniest english expression and one of my favourites : "to go like shit off a shovel".
It took me some research to find the etymology but it was worth taking the time !
By the way, I still don't know why a bicycle is a "she" for you brits, any ideas ?
Most english men are obsessed with their mothers so refer to anything that gives them a problem as a 'she' - cars, trucks, bikes anything and everything.
I have never, ever, in my life referred to any of my cars/ bikes as 'she', they definitely are an 'it' or 'git' at best.
BTW - this bike goes like 'shit off a shovel'
