My Pal is after some strong wheels, I'm unsure what makes a strong wheel but, 2.5mm or 3mm spokes? good quality Rim and good quality hubs..

What do you have??

strong wheels

Whats he using them for, weight etc?

Having super thick spokes doesn't necessarily mean the wheel will be strong (just heavy)

indeed, eg butted spokes absorb hits better, are lighter and stronger

Yes its torque & weight, he is a big guy and keeps popping spokes on the back wheel, over a £1000 worth of modern bike and spokes keep popping. From memory they are Mavic rims & DB spokes, although 2.5mm? From what I understand you can get 3mm DB & 3.5mm DB Spokes....

Does the rim twist (under torque pressure) to then stress the spoke to cause a break???

He wants some new wheels so what can I get him??

I am 16 stone on full suspension bike I have had some mavic EX 731 wheels made up by Merlin cycles and they seem bombproof and still perfectly true
