Re:
Try finding a 26.8 seatpost and corresponding 28.6 clamp type thing. And one that lasts beyond 3 months. I still have my Zoom seatpost after 23 years or so but the clamp surfaces have worn too smooth for them to lock into place. Even though I'm no lardy, the clamp bolt on the new one sheared as I was bombing along, ditching me on my arse in the road. My old DX thumbies still work. Still got the same XT inch threaded headset on after 23 years. Have gone through two XT m772 rear derailleurs in 4 years but they are pretty damn good and do get one hell of a wiggin'. Have been wondering about fitting a modern BB (why so many types?) and crank but still can't give up on the old square tapers. Think a lot of the new cranksets look awful next to a classic Sugino or whatever. BITD, you could sort out your own fixes. Now I guess bikes LBS chains have gone the way of modern car dealerships where people get suckered into relying service packages, particulary with components not amenable to the DIY bodger.
