modern forks on retro frames

Here is my Merlin Extra Fat with Pace rc41 fighters fitted. The bike rides great and I am very happy with it. :D

I'm running 100mm Magura Asgards on my '94 Explosif singlespeed and, I have to say, I really like the setup.
I run the Asgards at about 25% sag and by tuning the oil levels/air pressures in the two chambers they use all their travel on occasion but don't blow through the midrange too easily. Even without any lockout facility climbing is good too, without much bobbing.

My favourite bike at the minute anyway - I took my 2007 RM Blizzard out for a couple of hours yesterday evening and I'm sure that I would have enjoyed the ride more on one of my singlespeeds....even with a few stiff climbs

The only unfortunate thing is that with this frame there is no "magic ratio" to let me run it without a tensioner - or not for a ratio that is usable anyway. Currently running 32:18 but may try 32:20 - I don't ride more than a mile or two on the road anyway so I could live with the spinniness in exchange for slightly lower gearing for the short steep climbs out of gullies etc.

Having said all that - I've fitted a 19T sprocket today and with a slightly "run in "(say 100 miles) chain, tension is absolutely perfect. That'll do for me then

I've got a set of Maverick sc32's on my 98 Stumpy m2 and they are, at a guess, about 18 million times better than the original RS Judy T2s it came with, which were dangerously flexible, bottomed out going over kerbs and you also got the impression that the adjustment knobs weren't actually connected!

I'm guessing not all Judy t2 were like that though, or at least I hope not....!

Increased rake and lengthened wheelbase, thus more stable at speed, and lessened the feeling of getting pitched over the bars when braking hard.

Get some of the U turn equiped forks from RS, U can screw down the travel and crown/axle length to suit the frame and your riding style.
