Modding Maguras to fit drops - finished with pics on page 2

There is a post on MTBR about a guy who mod'd a set of hopes. Nicely done.
 
Why do you need to run the brake line along the handlebars? Just have it poking straight up and invest your time in trying to make them comfy.
 
I'll add that a late model Raleigh Randonneur in fine condition with full XT 9-speed group and HS66 brakes struggled to break £200 a week or so ago:

If you're lucky it might be possible to pick up one of those few bikes that came with them as standard and break it for parts, making most or all of your money back. They don't come along all that often though. Of the Randonneurs it was only this very late model that had hydraulic brakes, and people tend to hang on to them.

But as I pointed out the Magura banjo fitting only fits the HS33 levers, not the HS11 ones. But I need the HS11 ones for the lever length - and they're a lot cheaper to play around with!

The copper pipe will only add one extra join to the system - barbed fitting from lever > copper pipe > barbed fitting > hose.

I'd hate to see you put all that work in, then realized that you're not going to able to reach the levers at all - you should just be patient and wait for some 66's to pop up and invest. Don;t cheap out, either - experimentation, hydraulic systems and brakes are a deadly combination.

Just allocate the budget and spend it when you find the RIGHT parts.

But I have all the parts I need. I've rebuilt loads of Maguras over the years (I run sets on 3 bikes currently) and they are VERY simple mechanically - far simpler than hydraulic disc set-ups.

HS66s are expensive and rare - if I lucked out and found a set cool, but unlikely. That set on ebay (which I had seen btw) is for one side only too. So no use.

Anyway, I have a workshop and machines to play with - I teach D&T - so I'm pretty confident of finding a good solution.

I'll probably set it up like that in the first instance when I'm getting the lever reach right, but I'd like for neatness sake to run the hose under the bar-tape.
 
I might consider selling my hs66... in case I'll get in touch with you. They're almost new...

No worries, I'm still going to have a go at modding these levers anyway, as I like a good challenge!
