Wasn't there a craze in the US of lacing your Joints with Formaldehyde (embalming fluid)?
I heard something about that, but it was after my time in that crowd...I don't smoke anymore, and only drink moderately.

It's not so shocking if you consider the stuff that goes into meth or crack...sad really :(
I used to smoke (a lot) Stopped in 2001 whilst in the Kullu Valley carrying 10 tollahs of Malana Cream, for personal use I Must add!! we'd just Walked over the Chandrikani pass from Malana to Nagar. we stayed a couple of days in Nagar then got on our bus to Dehli our bus got stopped & searched,It was just after 9/11 & the Indian security forces had to be seen to be securing the Hindus from the Evil Muslims  , On got 2 soldiers with dogs  This is it I thought 10 years in some Indian Hell Hole for possesion of some Hash  I played it cool as the soldiers & dogs walk up & back down the bus the dog didnt even take any notice what so ever!!! I took it as a definite sign to stop smoking & stopped there & then .

Was chatting to a friend who's a psychiatrist about this, he reckons the evidence is less than compelling and that there are lots of potentially muddying factors e.g. whether there's a correlation between those prone to mental illness and those drawn to drug use.

Good point. Although I happen to know that your trick cyclist friend is known as "Dr Groovy" and has a hard drive filled with rare Jerry Garcia guitar solos.

Personally I think it's pretty clear that heavy drug use during adolescent development isn't going to do you much good though.

Undoubtedly true that cannabis is far less damaging to individuals and society as a whole than alcohol.

Probably less bad than transfats and fructose in food too.

As kicks go, marijuana is pretty harmless, as long as it hasn't been messed about with. I'd rather have to share a small space with a group of potheads than Special Brew drinkers. The worst thing SEEMS to be that it can trigger mental illness in a very small group of vulnerable people, but even there alcohol seems to mess up more people worse.

you telling me "nope", with that statement you just made there...I issue you a big "nope" as well. Did you read one article and decide it must be right. The data still isn't definitive on that correlation.

Yes, that's why I carefully put "seems" in what I wrote. The link is claimed but tendentious, possibly only specious, it is not thoroughly proven... one day it may cease to be...

though I agree that I would rather share a room with potheads than drunks, unless the pot has been laced with something special...then it can get weird. Been there; done that...you dont want to know

Well, yes. But that goes for booze too - when it gets spiked with med/lab/industrial alcohol things can go horribly wrong(er). That's a reason for legalization, so people can buy from reliable certified suppliers.

Anyone heard anything about Missy Giove? Sentencing had been adjourned in September to take place on December 1st, but that's been and gone and I haven't seen any updates about it....

she came to mind just the other day, as I was reading through some old MTB mags. One of the articles gave her a thumbs up for being the first competitor to greet fellow racers at the finish line, even though she might have just lost.

I hope she comes out of this ok, and can her life around somewhat.

I agree. She's done something really dumb, but I don't see much point in locking her up for 5 years. I'm sure that she's smart enough to have learned a lesson from this one.

It all gets a bit chicken and egg.

What happens when you give skunk to animals?

I saw a documentary on youtube once where they gave spiders a variety of drugs. When it had a bit of weed it couldn't be bothered with a web and made a hammock instead.

Erm, I dont think it was a documentary, although a pal who is a lab tech in a college thought it was and put it up for educational viewing without first checkinng it out.

But regards the topic in hand, the latest I have heard regarding Missy Giove, is she has pleaded guilty and will not fight a sentence less than 60 months jail time. Sentencing to be done sometime in the new year, possibly April.

As to what she has done, it was her choice and she came unstuck, bad luck is all I can say on the situation.
