Missing parcels

Not been misfortunate to lose anything I can remember, but bought some hubs recently that were apparently returned to the sender - without me getting any attempted delivery notice or similar.
I think it was an insurance claim scam on the sellers part, but I can't quite work out how it was pulled off.

I paid via ebay
The item was marked as dispatched after two weeks - but no tracking info was provided.
When I chased it up a week after dispatch, (3 weeks after the purchase), the seller claimed it had been returned to them.
Apparently they then opened the item to find one of the hubs had been damaged, and therefore refunded me the full amount.

Surely to have a legitimate chance of a claim it would have a tracking/order/failed delivery/returned history with the delivery service, so I can't understand how the scam (if it was one) has worked.

Sellers feedback was 100% but they had historic feedback of slow dispatch, returned, reposted, refunded items - so I knew I was taking a gamble and that I would be protected through eBay if needed.
So these hubs that I bought, that never made it to me, and were apparently found to be damaged, so I got refunded…have now been re-listed…🤔

Like i said, it is a common action. A seller does not have to send or sell an item even if won, for whatever reason he deems appropriate, but he will get a mark against his account, the way around that is to generate a tracking number online and not send it out. They are then also covered against negative feedback as they have online proof of postage and can have any negative feedback removed.

He obviously did not want to sell it, maybe not the sort of person you want to buy off anyway, so just forget about it and move on :)

It depends if i notice or not, and also the importance to me of whatever it is ive bought, but i have in the past asked the seller to change the delivery agent to royal mail, from hermes, ups etc, mainly as ive always had a safe service with the RM, and the RM returns any parcels they cant deliver to their sorting office which is pretty near to me. I usually find for the other delivery agents their sorting office is on the other side of the city, making it difficult to get to.
I will always avoid where possible using hermes, and would personally never send with them and i feel the negatives are higher with the likes of that company.
I'd rather take a small loss from resending, or a trip to pick something up, than have to go chasing things or end up with nothing.
For example you own a part that cost X amount, and selling it after so many years you get about half that back. You send and its lost and any compo is a fraction of that. The delivery company couldnt give a toss you've lost out a lot of money, which is why they offer so little in compensation unless you use a premium service, or pay a considerable amount more with insurance

Another thing I think should be pointed out is with hermes and those others is, they are willing to employ anyone with a van, seemingly without background checks, whereas RM they are RM employees with RM pay and benefits and are less willing to jeopardize their job.

At the weekend I had a minor surgery to repair a tennis injury, nothing serious but i do need 48hrs of absolute rest followed by 2 weeks of taking it easy. Same day i sold a basic 2x speed shifter and 2x speed fr-mech i had listed on ebay for £30 so yesterday i followed up the sale with a courtesy msg explaining the situation just saying that... If it's alright with you? It might be a couple of days before i'm mobile enough to walk to the post office (i usually ship next day) the buyer emailed me back saying (and i quote) "sorry about that but i need these as soon as possible!"
Wow!, the lack of empathy from some people is just staggering.

If you've not sent then cancel the sale and hell be done.
No need for such behaviour. And as to 'but i need as soon as possible' is just an impatient order. Sod being ordered about

Indeed, i said if you need them asap, cancel the order and buy elsewhere.. I've not heard back

Sadly been on the receiving end of various lost parcels as a buyer and seller of late. Most have been overseas and simply lost. I've been able to get money back as paid for insurance, but it seems mad to have to pay extra for the incompetence of firms whose one job is getting a parcel from a to b.

I had one parcel go missing this month and one got returned to sender address in a terrible state. It was clear that the box had got wet and as a result the item was damaged! And stupidly I didn't pay for extra insurance....
