Missing parcels

I've been lucky enough to have barely a single parcel go astray in 20 years+ until this last year, 5 items I have bought havent turned up and 1 damaged, culminating today with an entire bike that will be hard to replace if it is lost. It was a tracked delivery and suddenly there are no longer any updates available for it.

Has anyone else noticed a recent pattern of things going AWOL? I worry that eBay/PayPal are going to think I'm a scammer, I've had to open so many cases!

Ive heard there are folks following the delivery vans around and swiping packages from peoples doorsteps.

Yep, had a parcel re-packaged by parcelforce & they neglected to put 75% of it in the new parcel.
They’ve been 100% less than helpful too.

I think they've been dubbed 'Porch pirates'. I'm lucky in that respect, I work from home 95% of the time, and have cctv. The ones that have been lost have all been somewhere in transit.

Yodel have mislaid/lost 3 of mine in the last 4 weeks. Their tracking system is less than useless, especially if it's a 2 part delivery, they deliver one and the system declares it complete! Customer service say "it should turn up eventually " it doesn't.

Yup, Yodel are terrible! i had a delivery coming from (pre-brexit) Europe, the sender missed the house number but the rest of the address was complete, i got a txt notification saying it would be returned to sender, long and painful story short, the sender updated the address but Yodel still wasn't interested so i drove from Sheffield to the depot at Alfreton with many forms of ID but they still insisted it had to be returned..wtf!

I sold some pedals recently to a genuinely nice dude, he asked for them to be shipped to click and collect at Sainsbury's, i posted them, they arrived at Sainsbury's within 2 days and were signed for by 'Coombs' at 12.30pm.. 2 weeks passed and he never received a collection update so he went down there to find out what the flip was going on... Sainsbury's had no record of said package.. long/short he had to file a dispute with ebay (knowing this wasn't my fault, he asked if that would be ok) and ebay refunded him out of my funds. Sainsbury's said the package must have been returned to sender.. yet they had no evidence of such, so even when the courrier does a satisfactory job your package still might not actually 'get there'

Reading your last post Betsy, it reminded me that a while back, i posted something out to a seller for click and collect at Argos. He was buying a lot of stuff from all over and forgot about it. When he eventually went to Argos a couple of weeks later, they had destroyed the parcel without notifying either of us. I just presumed it had got there safely as it was signed for.

Currently have a Hermes parcel that moved to the 'basically we lost the fecking thing and can't find it, well update you and have it out tomorrow'
of course, tomorrow went and no updates from that status. This is from a big company, not bikes :-( , too.
I ignore the wait 10 working days now, and get straight on to the people I buy it from.

The other parcel they picked up that day from the same people all went fine.
I guess went through to different pickup location and sorting offices.

While our normal Hermes delivery driver is great, the stand-ins or additionals are get them all over the place, the local facebook group regularly has pictures up trying to find parcels or know who's parcel this is.

Certainly worse this time of year, but then more parcels are shipped around too.

Not been misfortunate to lose anything I can remember, but bought some hubs recently that were apparently returned to the sender - without me getting any attempted delivery notice or similar.
I think it was an insurance claim scam on the sellers part, but I can't quite work out how it was pulled off.

I paid via ebay
The item was marked as dispatched after two weeks - but no tracking info was provided.
When I chased it up a week after dispatch, (3 weeks after the purchase), the seller claimed it had been returned to them.
Apparently they then opened the item to find one of the hubs had been damaged, and therefore refunded me the full amount.

Surely to have a legitimate chance of a claim it would have a tracking/order/failed delivery/returned history with the delivery service, so I can't understand how the scam (if it was one) has worked.

Sellers feedback was 100% but they had historic feedback of slow dispatch, returned, reposted, refunded items - so I knew I was taking a gamble and that I would be protected through eBay if needed.
