Mint original Trek 8900 XC Pro with Logic cranks and Grafton brakes.

Whoever saw this pre-bid and didn't make a sensible offer must be kicking themselves.

I'm not usually a fan of buying nice original spec bikes for the parts, but as these frames do absolutely nothing for me personally it's right up there in the self justification 'God won't mind' category.

The frame will appeal to some and in that condition could fetch a decent amount on its own. My hope though is it stays intact and is in the hands of someone who has dreamed of owning one of these.

100%!!! Too many people looking on eBay, plus if we're talking about it a Google search will lead people here, then onto eBay if it doesn't take them to eBay in the first place.

Shame it doesn't have the original forks, unless this is a later model? I liked the one with fluro green lugs and Tange Super Big forks as you has a nice colour contrast vs. the carbon fibre tubes. I've had a couple of Trek's, but were both bought 2nd hand and used as "training" bikes. Cool colourways on early 90s Trek's and they ride really nice, if a bit boring/neutral.

I wonder what will happen to it...

I believe it's a '91 model - which came with the RockShox.
It is in a different colourway to the one in the brochure in the archives here though, so there may have been colour options or regional differences.
I'd be keeping it complete if I owned it, it's a 90's time capsule 😍

This is from their 1991 catalogue (thanks RB Archive! 🙏). Much prefer this brighter colourway. But would never feel the need to own one as they just don't do it for me. I also want to ride my old bikes and would worry about the lugs ungluing... although I do own a glued up aluminium MS Racing from 1989 so go figure! 🤣🤪🤔

I really liked the Treks from that era. Though we didn't stock the top spec models we sold boat loads of 7000 and 8000's. They had nice geometry, were great to ride and were well put together.

I got both 8500s and I’ve been to get them tonight. There isn’t a single sign of use anywhere apart from some very minor evidence of chain shifts on the rear of the black XT rings. The smaller one with the Sugino XP chainset has almost certainly never been ridden. It is impossible to tell that the XT parts are not new. As you can probably tell, I’m very happy with my purchases! The smaller frame is a 16 and will be up for sale soon, the 18” is probably too small too but I’ll never find another in this condition so it’ll probably stay.

What I can say is that whomever won the 8900 is in for a real treat. It is, like the 8500s, pretty much new. They’ve all clearly been kept inside and are as they came out of the shop in 1991 😎
