Mig1Mtb Ti stem - anyone heard of this ?

Hi all,

I bought this off Ebay recently and it was advertised as a titanium stem. Looks the right colour and certainly is very light. Trouble is I have never heard of Mig1Mtb as a make if thats what the sticker is supposed to be ?Therefore I'm wondering if it really is titanium - any way you can tell for sure ??? :?

Didn't they make the Ti Red frame?

Or was it Ti Red that made the mig 1 frame?

alternatively cut it in half and look at the cross section under a scanning electron microscope

Realistically it can only really be made of steel,alu,ti, or carbon.

Carbon can be ruled out straight away I would think.
Steel can be ruled out by the magnet test.
Which leaves Alu or Ti.
Alu is relatively soft compared to Ti, so do the scratch test on an unobtrusive area of the stem. If you can scratch it it's probably Alu.

It "Looks" like Ti to me though from the Pic, just from the tube shape,size, and thickness. (to my untrained eye)

Yes MiG1 was made by Titanium Red

Well the magnet test confirmed its not steel and I really doubt its alu so happy that i picked up a Ti stem for under £30 - as long as it doesn't break in half ! If it does then I'll send it to you Marin Man and you can have a look with your SEM.
Never heard of Titanium Red before but now I have the stem just need to find this.....

Shame they spelled seriously wrongly in the advert,but the frame does look very very nice indeed

Shame they used to break on a regular basis! 2 of My team mates used to ride them, Vince Potter and Alan Nixon used to ride them in around 2006 when riding for Cycleforce.
