Middleburn crank history

I've got a pair of "RS-HD" - which look like a burly version of the RS3 and came with a 94mm double spider.

It seems there was also an "RS-DH" - but what the distinction is between the two, I've no idea.

There were also "Shogun by Middleburn" models, made for the German market

and the burly-looking (but fragile?) downhill cranks with the milled-out girder rear...

Anyone fill in the details?

 Those black & gold Shoguns "look" awesome.
If you like the look of them you'd probably love the Goldtec/Middleburn stuff. The chainring and spider were one piece, Ti nitride coated titanium.

A whole Goldtec system of chainset, hubs and Ti nitrided Ti cassette was availiable and was reputedly the smoothest, longest lasting drive train ever. It did cost nearly £800 though in '94!

Here you go... ;)

This is quite randon, i have a set of RS2's i was just checking were RS2's, and they came from Bob at Goldtec. They are standard RS2's with a black spider, however when i got them off him (routing through his bits box when i was at keele uni and skint) he did say they were prototype ones and they had been there for ages so have them for x, y & z, cant remember now.

The main characteristic being, they are not engraved.

Has anyone seen any without the engraving before? Ill get a picture up and will prob sell them if anyone is interested.

It does seem that these have gone to Bob though at Goldtec to play with anodising or making chainringbolts/spiders for.

The story/circle is now complete!

Another note....... when i used to frequent my LBS "Sensible Bike Company" in Liss in Hampshire Both Bob from Goldtech & the guy that ran Middleburn used to come on the Saturday morning rides that started from the shop.

I remember Bob having a set of that Black & gold kit on his Spesh M2, that was a gorgeous bike.
I think that one of them had a Marin team Titanium which we used to drool over too.

On another note we also had ShockTech just up the road in Kingsley near Bordon although i never met any of those guys.

I love Middleburns bought them when they first come out. Good to see they are still going and haven't been bought out. May it continue. :D

will always buy their chain rings etc
