The stronglight mounting are plastic nut and bolt well the ones I got are where as SKS use steel fixings. The plastic fixing slip. The Miche perfrmance brakes are excellent but I never get that ammount of clearance in the frames I use it will depend on the frame I suppose and the clearance the frame is designed for. I use frames with clearance up to about 28mm tyres so by the time you fit guards you have a bit less.

Thanks! The limiting factor for clearance is the 1 cm between tyre and frame, for the width it is the brakes that determine that. Since it appears certain that I need new brakes, have you any idea what width guard would fit in the Miche calipers? If I could go to 40 or 45mm then that would be perfect. The stronglight guards come in two fixing types - one is a black plastic clip,bthe other appears to be the traditional bolt type
