Merlin Malt 1 New Project

Here we go, my latest project.....a Merlin Malt 1 from around 2004 I think.

Picked this up as part of a bundle off a guy clearing his garage out, absolute bargain of a price too.

It had a decent spec, all Shimano Deore and XT parts with some nice Alex rims wheels. I've stripped it down and done a bit of work already as you can see.

The paint work was shocking though, crackling everywhere from the laquer.

I've spent about 8 hours so far sanding all that laquer off then using rubbing compound and Autosol to bring back the shine, chuffed to bits with it.

Just trying to source some new decals, struggling though, any suggestions?

Here we go, the Jubilee has had one positive....an extra few days off to get this done.

The finish if the aluminium isn't perfect, but I'm really happy with where it is now compared to how it started.

Fox Vanilla R forks
Avid juicy 5 brakes
Hope XC hubs on Sun rims
Shimano XT rear derailleur
Shimano XT shifter
Cane Creek headset
Hope seat clamp
Charge Spoon saddle
...plus loads more

You've just bought one too? It's a lovely bike.

Back in 1998 I opted for the Rock Lobster over this from the Merlin adverts in MBUK. Never regretted the choice as the RL was amazing, but still always wanted one.
