Merckx Corsa Extra

Its going to look brilliant once its back together!
Nice polishing on that seatpost. What did you use? I have the one on my Merckx which is an Ultegra 600, again it wasn't retro when I put it on, it was still current :) Anyway its dulled right down after all these years with the Look seat bag attached.

Can't wait to see the finished bike!
For polishing, I use Solvol Autosol, after wet and dry for fine scratches. After fine sandpaper for deeper ones.

Thanks Mike
I use Autosol for the not so bad stuff but will give it a go with the wet and dry.
Cheers

Re:

Ok mate, i find around 800 grade works best. Received a pair of D/A cranks today that need doing. Will pm you stages when I get started Jamie.

Cheers Guys. ;)

Autosol is quite a heavy cut polish. I would guess your post is in great condition but just a little dull Jamie, so you want a light cutting polish. Loads of options if you go to car detailing websites.

Something like this kit would be a good start. ;)

I do the full wet sand method if I really want a mirror shine, down to 2500 grit, each cut at 90 degrees from the previous, then on with the polish. But this has just had Britemax Easy Cut with a fine scotchbrite followed by same polish with a microfibre and finished with a few hits of Britemax Final Shine. It's better now than the photo. There are some light marks still visible but it's good enough.

Anyone who has read my other builds will know that there is usually a bit of a pause before a bike gets cabled up.
I am also quite pressed for shed time at the moment, but I need to finish the DB before next month, so I wanted to get this finished and out of the way. So I am pleased to say the bike is complete. :D

So on to the pics.
