Mercian Saved!

Businessmen. There's a word to send shivers up the spine. Generally they know the price of everything and the value of nothing. Maybe that's unfair to them, but I wouldn't expect too much from them. They'll see the previous operation as a failure, so Mercian by way of Taiwan possibly.
My first 'lightweight' was a Mercian though, so I'll be pleased to be proved wrong.

I started working at an Engineering firm in 1995 . It was set up in 1994 by five directors . Me and another chap joined in 1995 . this made five directors and two employees . Three of the Directors were shop floor lads with 75 years combined experience in the product to be made all hands on blokes . In 2024 the firm now has seventy employees .
If Mercian has four non craftsmen Directors and say a work shop staff of four , how can that become a successful business , eight wages to pay but only four people in production actually making and painting frames ? .

I've read the mercian announcement
https://www.merciancycles.co.uk/ sounds genuinely sincere. 🤞

They appear familiar with the previous managers and employees, and have an understanding of what mercian's strengths are, and how to keep the quality.

Hopefully they put in an offer for all the significant and useful stock and tooling from the fire sale, as well as branding, and got chosen as the overall buyer.
Potentially it's the best possible outcome🥳

These new directors probably have other jobs to keep them fed.

Proof will be when frames are made again . No sign of any activity earlier this week when I passed the factory.
If they do then maybe reduce lead times & have a much more responsive customer service if they wish to attract future customers & business. But it’s encouraging none the less…
