Why is it a Denton and not a Mercian what's the history?

Denton was a shop. They got people to make bikes like sbdu/Yates/Mercian and badged under their shop. This is a Mercian, I have an email from Mercian confirming this.

My Dave Yates came to me as a Geoff Smith, he bought the f&f from the former to sell as his shop’s bike. Bit odd, but fine, maybe that’s what happened here?
