Mayonnaise on rims

Thought I'd report on a rare 'win' of mine on the maintenance front tonight. I removed some decals off the sides of my modern Cero AR30 road rims recently but they left a dreadful glue residue on 70% of the rim that looked scruffy and then stuck everything to it after my first ride! Normal detergent and a light scourer were doing absolutely nothing and they still looked like this afterwards:

A quick google led to me various solutions that I didn't especially want to try - heating up the rim, nail polish remover, alcohol (though drinking enough of it might have made me less worried about the sticky residue, I guess...) etc. Then I remembered an old tip for removing stubborn stickers that I saw on daytime tv years ago - mayonnaise! Anyway, a rummage in the back of the fridge and then smearing the wheels for 20 minutes in Hellman's finest, and the previously stubborn glue just wipes away in big clumps, no scrubbing required!
