Hi, i am selling max jones’ (2x world champion, Mtb hall of famer) 1993 Kona Hot custom made by Tom Teesdale, it was sent to him with a coat of custom black race paint and no decals except the tange ultimate, it has a fluted down tube, xtr front and rear, a titanium obeam seatpost, various parts from around 93, a xt rear wheel built up with a mavic 517 rim, a deore lx parallax front hub built to a pair of ritchey vantage pro rims with red nipples, and a manitou front fork that i had lying around that works like a charm, the bike could use a minor tuneup and has absolutely beautiful brazing. There is a small ding in the toptube (smaller than a dime) from a crash that Max Jones got into. There are only around 40 Kona Hots from 1993 known to exist so its relatively rare. There are a couple pics of just the frame, but bike is selling as a complete bike. Im asking $1400 plus shipping.

Yep, so i got it from a seller in the bc area who picked it up from Max Jones back in the early 2000s, he told me details of the pro rider who got sent the frame from Kona and all the details matched with Max Jones, me and Pip on retrobike deduced that as well, and the seller originally would not tell me the riders name, but i asked if it was Max Jones and he confirmed it. I have also found photos of max jones racing all black no decal mtbs.

Saying it was Max Jones' is a big claim. It would be nice to see supporting evidence to back that up. No offence intended Eli, but it wouldn't be the first time someone has told a bold story to get a sale, so you may find people want to see proof before parting with their cash.

Ideally a picture of him on a black Kona, even better, this one. The Kona's i have seen him on have all been Ti, like other members of the team were racing back then.
