Mavic Wheels

I have a set of Mavic T217 wheels on Shimano hubs, owned from new.
I think they may have done a little touring last millennium and they look in reasonable condition.
I can check they are in wear tolerances, 0.4mm, they will take up to 30mm tyres.

Internet searches suggest they vary in quality from bombproof to as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
If in good nick are they decent enough to put back in use or an accident waiting to happen.
I recall they were pretty good.

Absolutely fine. 217s were med to high quality in their day.

What's the hubs?

I think they are Deore.
Not looked for ages but they may be part of a cunning plan to create a hybrid monster starting tomorrow or the next day
I fancy some weird handlebars that use bar end shifters and 105 aero style levers. I don't like STI stuff

Then those wheels will build a competent tourer.
It's worth greasing the hubs though if the grease in there is 20 years old?

STIs are great on a well used bike, but the bar position needs to be right and all the components need to be properly compatible.
These 2 things don't happen a lot.

Pursuit bars look good with barcons

By pursuit bars you mean like bull horns, funny that is what I use.
Barends and brakes all in more or less the same place.
My other wheel set is mavic A719 which I believe are pretty good as, handbuilt by a guy in Preston.

719s are tough rims, more all terrain, but 217s originated in mtb racing

Not enough hair for a top knot though!
OK maybe not moustache bars, but I have seen the Velo Orange bar you may be referring to, Crazy Bars or something.
