MAVIC 231 CD vs OXYGEN 6 CD

I am rebuilding a '93 (?) LOOK MI90 CARBON

I've bought a set of MAVIC GAO DAKAR wheels. They are on Oxygen 6 CD rims. I've found an old MAVIC calaog where this hubs and rims were sold as a set.

I've also been plenty of nice bikes from that period on the 231 CD rims, especially a few nice YETI.

They both look great, 231 CD are lighter and thinner.

Is there one rim that would be more appropriate than the other?

Any Pros and Cons?

Thanks!

If you are a heavy rider or bend rims then go for the M6. However the 231CDs have survived 15 years on my tourer.

Simplistically the M6s were replaced by the M261, MA40 was replaced by M231, the thin ones were racer rims, the others were more everyday rims. For 93, the M231/261 would be a better year match, and remember that almost all bikes were on cassettes by then rather than using freewheels (that said, Mavic stuff is lovely)

You could also get Mavic Gao Dakar rims... I have some on a Mavic hubbed wheelset
Don't know if these rims were then re-branded as M6CD rims later?

Oxygen/M6CDrims have a different profile to the Energy /M7CD. The latter are narrower

In addition to the M261CD there was also an M281CD. I have a pair of these on my rider "O" - very solid dependable wheels.
