Mavic 230 tib/sbp question.

Am currently in the process of putting together some wheels but have a few questions.

I want to use mavic 230 tib rims but what's the difference between these and the 230 sbp version?

There to be laced in the usual cross spoked way (32h)
To White industries ti hubs

Are there any issues with strength anyone has encountered or are they a sound rim?

I thought sbp was related to better braking (superior braking performance), but I could be talking rubbish and have made up an acronym?

Am I right in thinking the tib came in just one colour like a goldish?

I don't know about the material of the eyelets.

As for the sbp I know even less about,until 2days ago I didn't know there were 2 versions of this rim.
I know they were very light though.

Any help would be great.

TIB is the finish bronze/gold finsh
SBP is the Silver finish.

Advantage of the SBP is you don't have to go through the anodising as much to get to metal

They are a rim for lightweight (they are a very light rim) but not the strongest. You might find they dent easily if they hit edges and mine always buckled easier than other rims.
They are basically a 'cheese' version of the M231 but if treated for what they are they are a good rim. Eyelets and certainly a top end rim.

until the new era of xx7 (117/217/517 etc came along)

I think 1994 and 1995 where it's years.


TIB is top right colour and SBP is top left colour

I think that is made up, design to fit peoples experience
Mainly as it would be a french abbreviation.

Like TIB meaning TItane Bronze ?

Yep, as said, colour difference only.

I've built a pair of TIBs onto WI hubs and Revolution spokes for my weight weenie build, and they are *quite* light...

But not the strongest of rims. Treat them with a little respect and they'll do you proud.
