Are they durable enough to use for bike packing / touring

They are great rims, but there are 1000s of cheap nearly new 26" wheelsets out there s/hand or clearance price if you wanted something newer.

Tbh, you should be fine. The strength of a 26" wheel is much greater than a 700c. So even if these were a bit lightweight bitd, they will still be strong.

But as with all wheels, the build quality and the subsequent "fiddling" by well meaning owners will have much more to do with their longevity and ability to take a bashing. 😂
 
I've built loads of 230s when they were new, and wore through a few myself.
Light, strong enough for touring.

If you crash, you might break them.
There's a surprise.
You might break yourself.

After a few thousand miles riding in bad weather with dirty pads, you'll wear them out.

If the spokes are decent, and the hubs kept serviced, it's only an hours work to swap new rims on there and ride s free thousands more miles.

Realistically if you want your rims to last for ever, dont use rimbrakes😉
